Observatory (Obs) is a bohemian suburb with a broad mix of students, foreigners, long-term residents and holiday makers. It is one of the more colorful and vibey of Cape Town's suburbs and has an energy that you often won't find elsewhere. The suburb is an "improvement district", that provides additional private security patrols and, for those who want it, escorts home from the main bars and restaurants at night.
The house itself is very centrally located, just five minutes walk from the main Obs strip with all the bars, clubs, restaurants and shops. Obs is also perfectly situated on the intersection of just about every major Cape Town highway, meaning that reaching almost all parts of the city is no further than 20 minutes by car.
The suburb is also connected by a busy train line to Kalk Bay/Simon's Town and on the public taxi/bus network into the city center. On weekends there is an 'Obs Party Shuttle' operating a circular route between Observatory and town until 4am. It's only R20/trip and the pick-up point is just 75m from our house There is a good car rental company round the corner from us.
The house is shared with us, an English and Italian couple, who have made Cape Town their home for the past 10 years. I (Tom) work and study at the University of Cape Town while Grazia is an archaeologist, specializing in Southern Africa.
We are keen hikers, runners and cyclists, and set up the Obs Running Club (The "ORCs") which meet weekly for 5km (Fri) and 10km (Wed) runs in and around Obs. You are more than welcome to join us for these. I also used to run the university SCUBA club, a sport which remains a - albeit now only occasional - passion.
We also love to cook, eat out and braai (BBQ). Grazia is a vegetarian so we have got pretty creative with non-meat cooking over the fire as well. Of course, living in Cape Town, it's not possible to list your interests without mentioning wine. Indeed we do enjoy discovering both a good bottle of wine (i.e. wine tasting) and drinking it too.
We have a medium size young dog, Roxy, and a very fluffy old cat Charlie, who live with us. They are both well behaved and, while Roxy will love your company, Charlie will just be an occasional visitor for a stroke or two.
Combined, we have traveled South Africa extensively and are very knowledgeable, and connected, about things to do in and around Cape Town and further afield. We are only to happy to share our knowledge of this amazing country.
We look forward to meeting you.
We will give you a set of keys and remote for the gate and alarm so you are free to come and go as and when you please.
The house is semi-detached and noise does travel so we would request that you keep excessive (loud) noise to a minimum, especially at night.

We enjoyed our stay very much. Very personally atmosphere. Super friendly people with a very nice dog.. We felt like at home. Good conversation and many helpful tips. Accomotation is in a quiet and save area. Security is taken very seriously. Nearby good Cafes and Restaurants. Wifi good. We like it, certainly book again, when visiting Capetown!!!

We had been looking forward to Highpoint and were not disappointed. It did not just live up to our expectations but totally surpassed them! The owner and his team were only too willing to assist and everything ran very smoothly. The house was exceptionally clean and well appointed. There's a hot tub, table tennis, garage, walks up behind the house and lots more. The views are beyond words, the house is simply fantastic. We normally book hotels and so the idea of a house for a week is a new experience to us. We will do it again and, if we can afford it, will be be back again soon!
